Ano party continues to climb in the polls

Andrej Babiš meets with supporters of his Ano party. The Social Democrats (ČSSD) continue to have a big lead in the polls as early elections set for Oct. 25-26 approach, but the Ano movement of billionaire Andrej Babiš is now the second most popular party, according to an opinion poll by TNS Aisa agency released by public Czech Television (ČT) Monday, Oct. 7.

If the election were held today, ČSSD would win 29 percent of the vote, or more than twice as much as ANO, which has climbed to 13 percent and overtaken the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia for second place. The Communists are at 11 percent, the two right-wing parties, TOP 09 and the Civic Democrats (ODS), 9.5 percent and 8.5 percent, respectively, and the Christian Democrats (KDU-ČSL) 6.5 percent, the poll showed. The poll confirmed ANO’s growing popularity. It also showed a decrease in voter support for the Communists, compared with a poll held last week.
